Meet Dave Wood, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. Dave received his Master’s in Counseling and Psychological Services from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota. He originally started working in mental health as a communications director for a non-profit providing employment services, mental health services, and chemical health services, and employment services to 200,000 clients per year.
Dave believes that every individual is truly unique and their own expert. “When I ask you a question, I don’t expect to know the answer– I expect to be surprised.” He emphasizes the importance of keeping an open mind, not trying to predict what a client will say, and seeing each other as equals. Dave acknowledges that even when clients have similar backgrounds or aspects of their identities, no two clients are alike.
Dave enjoys working with LGBTQ clients, clients handling grief, and clients going through life stage changes. He has worked with both individuals and couples. Dave also focuses on transitions and positive aging. “I see clients from 18 to 81.” Dave integrates feminist psychology and positive psychology into his flexible, person-centered approach.
