Tanner McCarthy, M.S.

Psychotherapist

Therapy is much more than people talking in a room together. It is an opportunity for growth, to be truly understood, and to work towards reaching one’s goals in a nonjudgmental environment. It’s full of difficulties and hardships, laughter and joy, struggle and accomplishment. Therapy is for all, no matter how big or small the perceived problem may be. While I work with you, I will do my best to celebrate the uniqueness of you and create a therapeutic environment that is supportive yet challenging. I have a passion for helping others reach their full potential and would love to help you during your process of achieving that.

My therapeutic style consists of collaboration between myself and my client. I believe I can learn as much from you as you can from me. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as well as aspects from Humanism, Relational, Positive Psychology, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I also have a tendency to use humor. I have experience working with adults and children ages 14+. I enjoy working with individuals of all backgrounds, orientations, abilities, and struggles. I have experience working with those who are experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, relationships issues, emotional dysregulation, life transitions, those who are struggling to find their purpose, and neurodiverse individuals. I also have experience working with athletes and individuals with substance issues as well.

I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Augsburg College and my Master’s degree in the Science of Psychology from Purdue Global University. I am currently enrolled in the Counseling Psychology PsyD program at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. I have 10 years of experience in the mental health field, of which the last 5 have been dedicated to therapy.
